Depression is something that is very, very serious and can seriously mess you up emotionally and physically. While there are many different medications that you can take for depression, I can promise you that natural remedies are going to be your best bet. Not only are there a ton of different ones out there, but one could be sitting right on your tabletop.

Salt has been proven as a positive treatment for depression. The reason is because salt actually triggers the mind to release a pleasant response, thus relieving any tension or depression that you might be having in your mind at that moment.

While most people say that too much salt is going to harm you, your body will actually crave salt if you do not eat it.

Depression is still not completely understood, especially with the alteration in the brain chemistry resulting to it. But there are several identifiable triggers for depression.

First, we have stress. There are many possible causes of stress, which can cause or worsen depression.

Then we have trauma. Persons may suffer PTSD or Post – Traumatic Stress Disorder from intense physical or emotional trauma or abuse can lead to long periods of depression and other psychological difficulties.

Reduced sun exposure is said to play a role in depression. There were cases wherein people experience decreased mood during winter months.

Genetics can also be a factor in depression. But it doesn’t mean that you are vulnerable to the problem if you have one or more relatives who suffered the condition.

There are diseases that can cause depression, like hypothyroidism, which is caused by a deficiency of thyroid hormone.

Changes in body levels of some substances can precipitate depression. For instance, when the levels of estrogen in women and testosterone in men decline, they may experience mood swings and depression together with some physiological changes.

Recent studies have also revealed that vitamin D is also linked to depression when in low level.

People drink alcohol to disregard their problems and to get away momentarily from depression. Although they’re not aware of the fact that alcohol makes brain function sluggish and directly worsen depression.

And lastly, there are medications that include depression on their list of possible side effects. An example is propranolol (Inderal) and metoprolol (Lopressor). Don’t worry too much though, there are some daily remedies to fight depressions, and we’re sure they’ll help you out tremendously!
